Alloy hardtop- Anyone built one?

New project is to build a hardtop for my traily. Want to be able to put a solar panel and tuna tower up there. Figured I will have a 40x25mm box frame 400mm centres with 3mm sheeting on top. Was going to make it flat but not sure if it will look like a home made job. 80 x 6mm bar for the edge trim. Got it half workd out but any tips will be appreciated

I built one for my boat.Total size 3000mm X 1800mm,I made frame out of 50 X 25 X 3mm box.I got 2 peices of 2mm ally sheet bent & cut to shape.I have a 50mm side on roof.On inside I got some 4mm ply & covered it in white vinyl.I put 25mm white coolite foam for insulation.I ran my top light & gps wire from top to inside.I also put 4 small down lights.Made up 4 extra supports 32mm X 3mm Dia as well as my orginal centre bars.Will try & post some photo's or send them to you.Unsure where you are but can show you,I'm on southside of Brisbane.

probably only want 3mm anywhere you will put weight on ( tuna tower ). Less weight up high the better

gday trevor,
when i was researching plate boats i looked at trailcrafts. the mackay dealer (JG marine, but i don't think they are a dealer anymore) has a local fab shop that they get some work done with, including hardtops.

you know gutsnstuff I have had those very thoughts but first i will build this hardtop and then maybe project on a small centre console for the esturies and then we will see> Good to see you have signed up;D ;D ;D
