OK, very funny,

So to be serious, I would like to ask; for a 3.5 mt (11'6") tinnie what would you think would be the smallest hp to get up and go at a fair rate not just to putt along. I've seen 12' tinnies(for sale) with only 6 hp????

Hey Mac Attack, that was my son clowning around after a early morn Bream session on the Brisbane river. Silly Bugger has a funny sense of humour and He certainly got a laugh from me.

You and your boy sure spend a lot of quality time fishing together. It is really great to see these days.

That photo got a laugh from me too chief. Excellent. Well I don't have it anymore because I sold it but #2 being a 3.7 metre with 30 horses on the back and a stainless performance prop used to move along well. :o I had to laugh once when I was trailing behind Scalem in his 15 ft glass Mustang with a 70hp Jonno on the back and he kept looking behind to see if I was still behind which I was. Then while he wasn't looking I whipped out and pulled up alongside him. He looks behind and the look said it all. Was like "Shit, where's Poodroo?" Then he noticed me passing him. ;D Was going great guns until the prop bush gave in and I came to a halt. He had the last laugh as he towed me back to Manly. Lol

The new boat goes quite well also but I doubt it would keep up with #2.

I reckon you'd need at least a 9.9hp. I have a 3.4m. With the 5hp on it and two adults plus fishing gear, we couldn't get it to plane. Got about 7.5 knots at full throttle, not on plane. Dropped to around 4-5 knots against the tide.

Have since put on a 15hp. Now with two adults it gets up to around 20-22 knots, ont he plane of course, but there hasnt really been a calm day yet here to really see what speed is possible.

G'day

Nice pic there Chief,

I have a 3.7M horizon, relatively loaded little boat with full floor and casting decks, 2x fuel tanks and battery and all the trim, 9.9 Merc, 35kph or about 20kts is all i've been able to squeeze from her.

I have a 4.1 with a 40 on it. goes quick enough I guess.

BTW - 40 is the max on my boat, and I have found that with the heavy outboard and my large ass down the back of the boat, it pays to get some ballast up the front for getting on the plane. I always have 20lt of water and 20 of spare fuel up the front and it helps enormously.

I might look at one of tose hydrofoil thingy's if they are any good in the future.

I have a Horizon 3.7 dingy with full floors and casting deck, plus a fair bit of gear with a 15hp Suzuki 2-Stroke. I havent been able to do proper speed tests but she still gets up and boogies with 4 average males.

3.55m tinnie with 6hp.

It's ok with just me on board, wouldn't dream of putting another person in. I need to get a 15hp.

I got a 4.1 with a 40 Jonno on the back. My lowrance gps reckons i can get just under 33 mph. Have gone out the front on flat days and overtaken boats with motors twice the size of mine. Very handy for when it blows up, gets home really quick.

my 4.6 with a 60 2 stroke on the back does 62km by GPS but its very easy to come out of the hole. it does seem to matter if i have 2 people and gear or 4.
cant wait to throw a different pitched prop on her.
that first photo happened to my wife the first time i took her out:argue:. my arm and ears are still sore from the bashing :angryfire::P
