I would go for the Sustain. Don't pay $1000 for it a good guide is $318 check around.

I would love the Sustain, but went for the Stradic due to budget.

Make sure you match it to a good stick, maybe a Loomis.

I have a sustain 1000 fe with a loomis and it is an awsome combo, i place the sustain higher than a daiwa sol!!! Great for casting light lures.

i voted sustain if u have to go shimano, dont touch the fireblood. If ya wanna get a decent reel, go for a daiwa :) sol or luvais are worth a look

Hey Keechie try a daiwa;D

But seriously both brands are worth looking at i personally doen't like 1000 shimano's and instead opt for shallow spooled daiwas instead, in saying that the new spool shape shimano has come up with is a winner i reakon so i might have a new opinion shortly(was thinking of getting a lightweight spin reel for my second canoe stick so i might have to try a new stradic for 'research'). My new 4000 stella casts like a wet dream so i'd assume the same shape would work well throughout the sizes. As for firebloods wouldn't touch the things with a ten foot pole for the price when you look at the alternatives. I'd say that from your list the sustain is the pick but there are other alternatives.

Hi Keechie,

I have a couple of sustains (the older style) and I find casting light line (2lb) with the 1000 is problematic due to the tiny spool diameter. I pressume the new sustains would be much better. I also have a friend who loves his twin power.

I know this dosen't answer your question but I prefer Daiwa (custom finesse!!)

Good luck!!

how much will a shimano fireblood 1000 cost?

Just under $600 locally, or if you subscribe to the theory that the Aussie Fireblood is the same as the Japanese Sephia (certainly looks the same), then you might find them cheaper O/S although I have only seen the Sephia in the 2500 size on Japanese websites.

Not entirely sure why people are giving the Firebloods such a bad wrap. From my 'limited' understanding they feature similar components to the Stella FB range of reels. And whilst some of the Stella 1000FB's threw nasty airknots straight out of the box, simply removing some spacers seemed to fix the problem on the ones I have seen. I would personally still go the 2500 size, but I think a Fireblood 1000 would be a pretty good reel.

The sustain probably offers better value for money, but the Fireblood looks better. And that's important don't you think Keechie?

Maybe that should read ... How much money will I waste on a Fireblood 1000::)

Be done with it ..... & buy the better Certate

if my .... Stella 2000SR (JDM) cant match it with a Certate 1500 ..... what chance does the Fireblood stand!

sorry Keechie ... to rain on your Shimano parade ...... but in this area , Daiwa rules the roost!

My Stella 2000SR lives on a Nitro Powerbream finese ( a good match) ...... But the Shimano did not mate well with my 701 or 702XL ...... many casting issues

701 is mated nowwith a 2500 Caldia & the 702XL with a Certate 1500..... perrrrfect

As mentioned in the next thread of yours ... about $500+ locally for the Certate

The Caldia - 22662 is a JDM reel ( we have the Caldia Kix - silver coloured)

The Caldia is a really nice reel ( good drag , very smooth for a 5 bearing reel ..... It was much better than the Tierra )
There were a few floating around 6-8 months ago for about $260)

With the exchange as good as it is at the moment I picked up a Sustain FE 2500 for under $270 and a Fireblood 1000 for under $350, both landed in Australia. Both awesome reels, but if I had the choice at similar prices I would go the Fireblood for the lighter stuff. They are a lot smoother/lighter and not a bad looking reel in my opinion.
