Exactly jimbo from past experiences at these types of auctions the only bargain will be the saussage sizzle, went to one like this two years ago on the gold coast everything sold at least at retail rate. The starting price was around full retail on most items. Anyway lets hope I am wrong and whoever goes gets a bargain, on the other hand I hope the day becomes profitable for the administrators and the staff get paid the money they may be owed.

The only bargains will be for auctioned items that are in low demand, like the shop fitout, etc.

I would have to say for me personally it was the biggest waste of time. Auctioneers taking simultaneous bids, rounding bids and people in general being willing to pay close to retail or a few times over retail with the 11% made the day pretty much a write off for me. Bargains were far and between in my eyes.

Did many people front for the auction?

I was going to go if I could get away from work early enough to have a shot at the Garmin 172c's there. They would probably have been the only thing there worth a deal on for me.

I would have to agree with Budge! The rain must have given ALOT of people the chance to attend and continue bidding against each other pushing prices up there, not too many "bargins". Did anyone score well????:-/

Sounds like i was lucky i forgot about it untill i got to work today. I was nearly going to knock off early to try and score some cheap tackle. All reports ive heard have been pretty similar to budge and deefa. Dont feel so bad for missing it now.

I agree with Budge and deefa66.There was 500 odd people there at 9 o'clock when i got there. The auctioneers seemed to wanna rush through it.Left about an hour after it started, wallet still intact.

I seem to recall that a few of our more learned members advised in earlier posts that it would be a good place to avoid.....no bargains!!;)

yep, I am afraid Auctions are usually to be avoided, been a lot of years since I have seen any real bargains, but I guess good luck to the people who ran the Auction, they made a packet and the owners (sundown) also made good money on their stuff, and a bunch of not so bright people got some perceived bargains, untill they check later and come to their senses! does not matter what sort of Auction, Real Estate, Cars, Boats or anything else, people get all swept up in the moment and just bid crazy!

I was bidder number 814!!

I was amazed at the prices people paid. I was interested in a spheros that I could get for $200.00. It went for $180 + 11% commission. Was also interested in a new GPS, but after watching this go on for 2 hours, I decided to not bother waiting for them to come up as they would not have gone for a bargain price. I thought to myuself that I should buy something small and over priced just so as not to feel left out!

Only expense,,, $10,00 at the food van.

If they are selling stuff for close to retail or more, perhaps a few of them should run general auctions more often! Selling 1500 items in a day would make a fortune for any tackle or boating shop LOL, closing down OR NOT.

A mate of mine bought a Shimano Aspire 1000FA for $250, which is about $200 off the retail.

And the Egrell S1 went for $265 which is cheap too, they retail for $445.

Maybe if those same people had gone and brought the same goods for the same price a couple of months ago, the place would not have shut down.

I got a twin power plus aspire plus 2saros and a slades for $400 (I guess there value at $900 or so) stella 6000 and aspire plus two thers went for $800 thousands of soft plastics for between $1-3 per pack etc etc just have to know your prices I had a great time spent nearly $4000 lots of bargains just had to buy bulk lots and wait for the people who had no idea to run out of dough lots of people paid up to and over retail (you cant protect people from themselves) the best bargains wre on top end gear mid range and cheapies werent worth the effort the auctioneers werent to flash with bid increases varying between $10 and $100 at random and not being clear on if you were buying one item or all the items at the bid price

I also went with plenty of cash and hoping for a bargain. Got there at 9 ish, saw how many there, drove straight past and went to Bunnings, bought some stuff there and spent the day working in the yard. You could see from the road what a sh!tfight it was going to be.... well done to those who got a bargain, you deserved it...

Cheers,
Shane
