Hi there,

I am in need of some help and opinions.

On saturday just gone took the boat out for a fish from Viccy Pt. All was good went around Mclaey Is and here there and everywhere, then on my back to the ramp, near coochie the engine went crazy, and was over revving with no propulsion. at low idle it was fine but as soon as i turned the throttle for more revs the engine starts to over rev with no propulsion so i limped back to the ramp. I hav a 15hp Mariner if it makes any difference.

I have searched this site for some insight as to what may be the problem could be. Some ideas i read were line in the prop, but i have checked and there is no line or anything.

I have removed the propeller and taken some photos of it, in my observations after taking it off the is a rubber seal that seams to be melted and corroded between the propeller and a washer of some sort,

Could this worn out seal cause my problems and if so (or even not) where should i look for new one?

Any help is welcome.

Thanks in advance

Callum

Sounds to me like you need your prop re-bushed.

Thanks Marty.

But what does Re-Bushed mean?

There is a rubber bush in your propeller around the spline, they ware out, they are pressed in by a machine, any outboard shop will get it done for you, it usually takes a couple of days as they may have to send it away to be done.

Alrighty then, thanks for that marty, that sort of made sense, I shall look into a new bush for the propeller.

I am definately with Marty on that one. The same thing happened to my old Yami i once had and what you described is exactly what mine was doing.

I had it rebushed at a cost of $80.

That last picture looks like what is being described, with the bush being torn.

You could probably pick up a very good second hand prop for the 15hp at around $75. Got one a couple of years ago for $70 and it had been used only as a 'demo' prop.
