Again I'm calling for expertise. Still searching for the right boat and want to get one with a 4 stroke. However, I'm almost willing to settle for a 2 stroke if it's going to treat me well with reliability, longevity and economy (same goes for 4 strokes I guess). I wouldn't mind some feedback on a couple of motors - a 2000 115hp Johnson VRO and 2004 Mercury 140hp V6.

Cheers,
Andrew

G'day

All I can really say, is go the merc. The V6 mercs are near bulletproof and go like a cut snake.

It's a much newer engine, what are the hours like? Are they on the same hull or 2 different combinations you're looking at?

Thanks for the quick reply Blackened. Two different boats. The Merc is on a 2004 Savage Bowrider and done approx 160hrs. The Johnson is on a 560 Quintrex bowrider and done about 100hrs.

G'day

They are... go the savage. Newer rig and arguably better build.

A lot will depend on your intended use. The V6 Merc will have more grunt if you intend engaging in watersports activities. The V4 Johnno is no slouch either but not the same amount of torque as a V6.
