Welcome aboard mate.

I asked something similar lately...

NGK plugs from somewhere like supercheap or repco will be fine and cost about $4 each. Bargain - you won't get much that cheap now that you're into boating.

Good luck,
Mike

See if the plugs say what part number they are on them, then go to Supercheap at Springwood and grab the plugs from there. Thats where I get mine for the boat motor :)

Give the NGKs the flick and only use champion in the Johnson - its important.

They do not cross over exactly the OMC motors were designed around the champion plugs, many problems have occured in the past due to using NGK that only a change to champion have fixed BUT with 8hp this may not be an issue for you.
The Jap engines I will use either but for time tested reasons in the OMC engines they are not ideal.

I just bought some new Champion copper marine plugs for my Johnson. Cost $6.90 each from local boat shop. They are excactly the same as the old plugs but I'm sure there is slighlty less power than before..

I would be inclined to check the plug part number on the plug to the one in the box

The NGK's seamed to work a treat
