Have just purchased a new 30hp Suzuki 2stroke outboard . I asked the dealer what the cost of the first service was and he told me $ 240 for the first service ( 1 month or 20 hrs. ) and second service was $240/260 ( 12 month/ 100 hrs). I could not believe it would cost that much considering I have also just bought a 115hp Yamaha 2stroke and the first service on that was $150 . Maybe he was confusing the 2stoke with a 4 stroke or just ripping me off ??????

if you are in brizzy, go to Jefferes Motorsport, you'll have to look their number up on the suzi website as they are a specialist dealer.
Wont find better

Hi

I have an '07 25 Yamaha 4 stroke and had my first service completed in September and was charged $185.00 from Wynnum Marine. This price also included free pick up of my boat prior to service and was then returned on completion of the service.

Cheers
Scott

He did say "first service" for the 115 Yammy. First service is always a fair bit cheaper as there is little to be done and almost no parts.

what was wrong with your engine tin can ? he doesnt charge that much for a service. a 250 4 stroke is just under 500 for a service inc parts.

Personally I have used Jeffers and found that he overcharged extensively. If its a new motor under warranty you need a dealer to do.On the northside that leaves Cunninghams[who are cheaper than Jeff in my opinion]. If its not under warranty or you want to take the risk if it is ---do it your self for a normal service and only use a mechanic for stuff you cant do eg impellors?? Normal service of oil change and filter change takes half hour and dead easy.

$500 for a 250 u must have got him on a good day/ Mymotor have nothing wrong with i was new to it all i think he saw me comeing because i then took it to another local mec called wade wimmers and he only charged me $135 he also said that jeffers is a bit on the heavy side so from now on i will use him. Seems like he knows his stuff to. Regards mark

no, not a 'good day'. this is a standard charge per unit. look you pay for what you get. if you want to screw down on prices and use whoever you can get, then fair enough thats your decison. however, using the cheapest mechanic does not always mean your getting the most thorough service. I dont know any details on your scenario tin can but i can assure you jeffers isnt a rip off.

also, just one thing. did you get your engine serviced / repaired twice ? or on different occasions. doesnt make sense.

$500 for a straight service of a 25hp is way over the top. Assuming it was only a "straight" service with no other issues.

Its important to note that a service is something you do annually to keep a healthy running engine running healthily.

If you take your engine to a repairer because you have a problem, sure you can get it serviced whilst its there but its not there for a service initially, its there for a repair job to fix the fault that caused you to take it to the repairer in the first instance.

Also, its interesting to note here and on other forums how the public perceive that since a mobile repairer has lower overheads he should be cheaper. People seem to forget that the service guy is coming to THEM so they don't have to tow the boat anywhere or do ANYTHING. That additional service and convenience should cost. How much is a plumber or electricians call out fee?

In any case, most mobile guys work out pretty soon that it doesn't work and doesn't make enough money to justify continuing.

Hi
Down here in Wollongong my 1999 90hp Johnno cost about $240.00 with a new impella.

Most of the service prices posted up seem o.k to me.

My first 20 hr service for a 115 Opti Merc was $170.
Annual service (without plugs) inc impella, oil, leg removal is around $380.

A big service (approx every 300 hrs) replacing plugs, compressor belt could likely go over $600. Cheers Craigie

My last service of a 130 Yamaha 2 stroke including some repairs to the seals on the trim cylinders was about $800. The cylinders cost me about $300 or so.

Service included 2 thermostats that were $100, plus a few other extra ticket items.

Everthing is expensive with boats.

Cheers

A friend of mine was quoted $120 per hour for his 115 zook 20 hr serv , plus parts. Service ended up costing him $300+ 2 hour drive each way for the service. I dont know the particulars of what was done but thought it a little rich because according to him, there's near nothing to do but checks on a 20 hr serv.
