Wow Jan, looks great and something different.

Are you using paint in epoxie or something? I havnt been building for a year or so and there are some new great options for the rod builder.

How is the grip, very slippery?

Cheers

Aaron

Thanks for the nice comments Roz. I wouldn't say amazing just different, lol.
Aaron, it is model paint mixed with epoxy and then blended together. After dry another coat or two of clear epoxy over the top is needed. There are plenty of websites with the info on it you need. No its not that slippery when wet but I use fingerless gloves anyway so it isn't a problem, plus I lock my fingers around the reel anyway.
Cheers, Jan.
Oh yeah, in case you didn't notice, lol, these are the Hastings PUR70UL in one and 2pce which are one of the best bream/whiting blanks around. I put titanium guides on the black and silver one and the whole thing weighs just under 100gm.

G'day Aaron,
they are the delux fuji cork split grips. You can buy them as a kit but measure where the winding checks are going to go when ordering them.
Cheers, Jan.

You just took the mystery out of it Jan lol.

Still, they look very good.

lol, no mystery here Roz. I prefer to do this on smaller diam. blanks as a pain in the backside doing wraps on them. I still get a visual impact on the rod without the hours of doing a wrap. only takes a few hrs to have a rod finished so the profit margin is that much better than one with a wrap on it :).
Cheers, Jan.

Which model paint do you use? I am having a cow of a time finding Testors enamels and the Tamiya versions have made flexcoat take up to 10 (TEN) hours before I can turn the dryer off!!! Or do you use pigment powder?

I use any of the enamel paints as well as some of the acrylics from time to time. I don't use flexcoat so don't have a big wait before the drier can be turned off but any marble job I do, I mostly do before bed so drier on while I sleep so don't lose time on the wrapper the next day.
Cheers, Jan.

G'day Ian,

I got the decals made through a local shop in Belmont. If you just want to do something like that I've attached a pic of a rod I did for Goshie to take to 1770. Very simple to do and you can pick up the stickers from any newsagency etc. Cost about $2 a sheet and can get mostly gold, silver and copper. I can put the customers boat name, anniversary date etc and it adds a little bit extra to the look of the rod. I've also attached one I did for a bloke I work with as that is what we call ourselves when we go out. Not politically correct but we only do it to feed ourselves and family, lol.
Cheers, Jan.

Thanks for the nice words all I appreciate it. I wasn't really 100% sure the marbelled grips would go down well with customers but these have been snapped up already so now I have some flouro and metalic paints I'll get stuck into some colourful designs, lol.
Cheers, Jan.

Nice job Jan, I like the split grips think they look great, Myles said he does quite a few but they are taking a long time for them to catch on in Australia. Maybe you have just got a few people interested on here.
I have a Matagi to put on my hastings when I finish the other 3 rods on the go and cant wait to finish it or start it.

but I really like the marble affect and was not aware that Fuji had a split grip. Opens a lot of windows.
thanks
