Hi Team.

My 1989 Johnson analog tacho remains on 1100RPM when turned off.

I have seen it go to zero once before when out fishing/anchored up/stopped.

It does appear to work freely when underway.

How do I attain zero RPM upon turn off?

I have a 2 stroke 110HP 4 cylinder donk.

Also, what pulse setting should this be on?

This has happened on both my last and current motor I find with my current motor if you turn the key on it will reset it to zero

Hi Russ.

I have turned the key on many times and watched the tacho - no reset to zero.

This apparent 'sticking of needle' seems common place..

Thoughts?

My 2yr old 4 stroke Mercury does exactly the same, same as many others I have seen.

I hate things looking out of place so for me I get it back to zero by turning the key back to on, then off and then turn the battery isolator to off, the needle then stays on zero.

Regards Cameron.

Strange.

How do u reset the battery isolator to 'OFF'?

It is very hard to determine what my idle RPM is because the tacho starts at 1100 RPM and then rises a few RPM - never drops at idle.

I doubt if I am idling at 13-1400 RPM ..

What shoudl my idle be for this particualr donk?

I still want to solve this one - why doee it sitck at 1100RPM and how can I remove this blur (besides buying a new one)?

I have fixed it. YIPPPEEE!

Thanks Team.

I tapped on glass and the needle moved.

I then turned igntion on/off a few times while tapping and the needle fell to zero -AND STAYED THERE!

Why do the needles get stuck anyway?

Thanks team.

i think its a form of static electricity that makes them stick , bit like putting ya arm near the tv

Thats my scientific explanation :D

Glad you worked it out. If it does get stuck again, most likely the gauge is mounted on the dash too tight. Get under your dash and loosen the mounting nut a bit.

Or, as you have done - get into the habit of tapping your gauges whenever you want to look at them (just like the old submarine movies)

Thanks.

The tacho is actually loosely mounted ontop of dash...bit like the greezy greek in his Monaro setup...:)

Cheers!
