I have seen a few posts on here regarding the TV...version of worlds deadliest catch...I have also seen most of the episodes..but i recently purchased a book called

Working The Edge ...by Spike Walker...

The book is basically on Alaska`s Crab fisheries in its boom days...1970 to 80`s ....Plus it also goes into very detailed accounts of the boats that floundered..

Great Reading...

Another good book that I own is... The North Queensland Fishing Eldorado by Ralph DeLacey. It is basically a memoir of Barra fishing in the 70's and 80's and the evolution of the fishery in the north during that period, with all the humorous stories to go with it.

I saw one of those King crabs at a Melbourne Restarunt over Xmas. It was in a live tank with some big crays. You could eat it if you had a spare $1080. I'am not joking.

the missus just gave me the other titles by spike walker.
nights of ice.
and, coming back alive.

the perfet storm, by sebastian junger, is also a great book, but you need to read it before seeing the movie, it tends to delve more into the histroy, rather then the story.

Another good book is "Hooked" by Bruce Necht, it details the chase across the southern ocean by the Customs boat "Southern Supporter". They located and pursued the boat "Viarsa" who was poaching Patagonian toothfish in Australia's Southern Fishing zone 2200 k's Southwest of Perth.

They chased them down into the icebergs off Antarctica and across the Southern Ocean to Capetown.

Cheers,
Mick
