Was down near Russel Island today and saw what appeared to be a sandbank. On closer inspection it was in the middle of the channel.... WTF says me. Turned out to be the line where the flood waters met the fresh ocean water. I have never seen anything like it before. We came back about an hour later and the line had moved about 50m, with the flood waters winning. The water was very turbulent but the boat didnt drift, just held it as the tide and flood forces were almost equal.

Hamish, the colour change is a very common sight up here in the top end during the run off. Flood water comes of the flood plains into creeks and then into the bigger rivers where it looks very similar to the pics you have. Not sure about the fishing around it down there, but up here it absoluty fantastic for the big Barra.
