Mate, lots of differences. 17L is 5m(17ft) 565 obviously 5.65m (181/2ft). the hulls are very different, 565 has a 100mm flat section up the middle. Need tandem trailer for 565. Not sure about max hp, but would think 565 could take more. 17 were older, 565 started about late 70's, 17 finished early 80's. 17L better all round boat, but more room in 565. Cheers Pete.

so why would you say the 17L is the better all round boat? does it handle better? or is it just the size thing? thanks

i have owned both boats and both are great but you cant beat length for comfort of ride, both sports car like to drive, i have mates with other brand boats same length but nowhere near as good a ride
17l for me is ok to fish 3 out of overnight where 565 4 ok, 17 would rock more at rest, bunks on 17 too short to fit comfy overnight and low cabin for access to anchoring but both good to walk around to anchor with canopy to hang onto
140hp
to 150hp ok on 17 maybe 175hp to 200hp good on 565l

I think 17 is better handling. yes I know length has advantages, but 17 doesn't drop its bow like 565. These comments may start WW3, but hey I'm allowed my opion, and they can have theirs. It's also easier to tow, store. A good all round boat and I should never have sold mine... just pardon me while I have a little tear. Cheers Pete.

i sold my first 17l bout 10 years ago then came the565l then the 26ftsea ray big mistake [costs]back to a 17l now put a 140hp johno/suzi on it 38knots 5700rpm then canopy starts to work like wing not game to go anymore, i agree the 17 is allround easier to use store tow turn around in mangrove creek but i must be getting old as i am really missing those 2 extra feet now as i massage my knees after a great overnight trip
good luck ped

I`m looking to buy a 17L, are they good fishing boats?, they look solid and stable, but how would they compare to say a V Sea which I just sold.
Hopefully I will start WW3 I`d really like to hear opinions, maybe I should buy a viking??.:D

Seems to do it as it comes off top of wave going into a sea. Gets wetter than a 17. I agree with others, if you want room 565 is better. Access to anchor through cabin of 17 is crap, hands and knees job, but if its rough, I just like 17. I had 100 4 stroke Yammie on back, not a fast boat but very economal. Brother had the 565 with 135 opti and I just liked 17 better. Cheers Pete
