Isn't this the type of thing they use to retrieve floats and line, say on crab pots such as seen on the "Deadliest Catch" ?

We used sort of the same thing with a float attatched when fishing deep water (for us) to mark a good show of fish and make it easier to anchor back over, but the thought of using that thing for anchoring a boat is silly. Lots of marketing going on....
