Anyone got anymore news? Trymax site has been changed and I can't find the link to it, JRC site has nothing about it, not even in their own press releases, nothing Googling - you would have thought all the retailers would be listing it yet today on the Creek to Coast TV show, a boat they had a story on was sporting one? Go figure! Also did anyone get the link to work for that centre console they did the story on? I can just wait till next week when the Creek to Coast site is updated I guess.

Doesn't look good when they take it off the webpage. First they were due for release for the Brisbane Boat Show, then November, then December and now early '08. 585 just keeps looking better and better.

First shipment of JRC FF60 units arrived early in the new year. Trymax Marine now has them in stock. The unit seen installed in the Ocean Sports centre console was a pre release evaluation unit. As soon as some suitable weather comes through I will be putting the unit through its paces and post some screen shots.
Cheers,
J-Man.

Thanks for bringing this up Smithy I have been waiting to hear more about this unit. I need to decide on a unit very soon so the dash on the new boat can be made to suit. Jason thanks for the info much appreciated.

Bump.

I see Captain Seaweed mentioned in his report he had one. Anyone got one? Any comments?

Hi Smithy,
Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the FF60 on water yet but bench tests look really good, the unit seems to have plenty of grunt for its rated 600w and the new higher resolution display is a big improvement over the FF50's. Menu operation is nice and easy to use like the FF50. There are about 15 units that have been supplied over the last few of weeks so there should be some feedback filtering through soon.
Cheers,
J-Man.

So only 600W. I thought they may have been making them to give the 585 Furuno a bit of serious competition.

I think the 585 has won me over. Found it hard to go back to the FF50 on Lee's Serial Fisher when we were out the Hards the other week. How about Mick from Tassies soundings in fathoms? That was some serious depth work going on there. I was sure JRC would make it 1kw to compete against the 585. That is a big mistake on their behalf I reckon. The JRC buttons for accessing functions are still miles in front. The Furuno you still have to go into the menu way too much by comparison. The function key is handy though as you guys pointed out to me but that is only one button. I'd still be keen to go out in a boat with a FF60 just to see what they are like but I am happy I bought the 585 when I did.

I had mine out to the shelf for the second time the other week. Just played around in 190-250m so didn't really need to do anything with it other than switch to 50hz. Still on auto fishing gain and didn't need to lower the transducer or anything and clear as a bell. The way the marlin season is going I will be out there a fair bit more on non-charter days as inshore is hopeless at the moment. I'll try and get more pics.

Not too sure what is going on Smithy, but they are advertised here in Tamar Marine, due out in April, and they are adv they are 1kw....

Had a look at the Tamar Marine catalogue and it does read a little ambiguously.
They are refering to a 1kW transducer option which is yet to be released. The unit is rated at 600W(rms) output power.

Jason can you please confirm that the FF60 has no colour function. Is there only one preset colour available?

Regards,
Greg

p.s 600W is somewhat disapointing as well.

Hi Greg,
not sure what you are refering to "no colour function".
The unit has three colour pallets and one monochrome pallet.
I initially thought the unit was going to be a 600W / 1kW unit as well, however JRC in their wisdom have decided to build it as a 600W unit. On water testing will prove how good its deepwater performance is. Hope to get the opportunity to test this soon.

Cheers,
J-Man.

Hi Jason,
What I have been told was that you could not change colours around like we do with the FF50 e.g black background white bottom definition etc. This may not be the case then?

Greg

Hi Greg,
That is right. JRC have changed the MENU configuration and there is no 'custom colour' set-up. They have a front panel button labled DAY/NIGHT which toggles through three colour pallets (basically black, blue and white background) and a momochrome pallet. I have already asked JRC to include the FF50 style 'custom colour' option for this unit as a software revision but am yet to have a reply. Thankfully they have retained the bottom discrimination mode and kept the operation nice and easy like the FF50.

Cheers,
J-Man.

looking for an update on this thread. i am looking at a new sounder so i am keen to hear if there is a few people out there who have a few trip up with the new JRC FF60 and what they think of it. i have been used a ff50 for the last 4 years and like it but the 585 looks to be what most people are going with. so how dose the ff60 and the 585 go head to head.

hello Block. I have a ff60 and also a seafarer. I have found it a great unit. It is easy to use and it has also put me onto lots of fish. I believe when your spending that sort of money you wont get a shitty unit. If you decide to buy one I will let you know what I run my settings on and I think you will be happy with it. When we go out to fish I can see peoples lines on my screen an surprise then I can tell them just before they hit the bottom just by looking at the scree. Anyway my 2 cents.
