View Full Version : Importing Blanks

I am still looking around for a spin blank to put together in the new year. Has anyone bought OS recently? A couple of the Mudhole blanks look good but I expect the cost of importing a single blank will be prohibitive. Can anyone give me an indication for bringing over a 7'6" to 8' blank?
Cheers

Neil I have never just bought one blank from overseas as I could not see this as being very cost effective. The last order I put in I ordered 7 blanks and guilds, a reel seat and some threads. the cost of the freight was around $50 US. When you divide this between a few items it is not so expensive.
The best think to do is send them an email and ask for freight costs before ordering and if you think it is not worth the while, see if anyone here is putting an order in that you can tag yours onto and pay part of the cost.

Mate why would you import a blank when there are blanks in aussie just as good or better.
You should look at a samuari S003 7'6" long.
I made a nice spin rod especially for flathead and bream.

Hi Neil,
I would go with Sandy's advice, also, it's not hard to find someone else needing something from over there. You could have jumped in with my order.
I've only just placed an order with C&M which will take a while, there will be close to 40 items, I estimate I will save around 30% perhaps more.
The Samurai brand was mentioned and I would also agree.
Santa has bought me an NV7 for which I paid $110.00 (my christmas prezzy to me).
the NV7 is a bit light and shorter than your requirements, rodman's suggestions of the S003 would be closer to the mark, infact I was handling one when I was looking for my NV7, nice blank.
Would also pay to look at the Hastings brand, tad more expensive but extremely high quality.

Ken, that sounds like a great blank but a little light for my intended use. I am looking for one to throw small slugs at Tuna and Macs. There are a few blanks in Aus (Rodworks etc) that may fit the bill but many more OS so I thought I would keep my options open by investigating the import option.
Roz and Sandyd, I have emailed Mudhole for a price but would probably look to fit it in with someone elses order if possible.
Does anyone know a blank along the lines of the Nitro distance Spin Magnum Butt?
Cheers
Neil
Horse,
Have you considered a Batson/Rainshadow blank?

Maybe something like a SWB80ML or RCLB80L would suit your purposes?
I haven't bought one yet, but I have heard great things about them.

Thanks Owen. There are a fair few blanks that would probably suit me. The HS 962 & 9001 and the IF 904 in particular. Around $70 US is great if they can be shipped at a reasonble cost
Cheers

In the Batson's - IP904 can be had locally for around $125 , HS9001 around $120 and RCLB80XL for around $85 all delivered prices (not me selling). I have a RCLB70ML that I am building at the moment and it is a friggin weapon. Can't wait to finish it off. Casts 125g with ease

The Australian importer is listed on the Batson website (www.batsonenterprises.com) and it isn't BD rods.

Hi Neil,
From Mudhole - I usually buy 7' blanks and get enough to fill a 40mm PVC tube, end to end. Freight to your door "Fedex" ranges between US$25 and US$45 depending on weight. Some of the heavier Calstar strokers weigh a lot more than the Graphite spin blanks.
I find the guides etc, are equivalent prices to Aust, so get them locally.
good luck

Buy your guides through Matagi in Japan. They are half what you would pay here and that includes freight. Best place to get your reel seats as well.

lol you posted this up a about a week to late mate, just got an order in from mudhole, 3 x 7 foot blanks, a 4 piece 10 weight fly blank and some other light items cost me $100 shipping but one of my items was backordered so im not sure if they just charged the shipping of the back order with it.
but now even though i asked him before i ordered all of 'MY' blanks my old man wants a 6kg spinner built for himself and i want to build mine i just got differently so if you do decide to order from mudhole shoot me a pm, could cut the shipping cost down for you
btw i got the 7 foot 6-17 lb GUSA blank and it feels great, lots of power with a very nice tip, and im sure you already know you can get 8-17lb in 7'8" and 8'3" which im sure wouldnt be to different

Sorry for the slow reply Ben. Mate, depending on the size of your order, far cheaper than from the USA. My last order was for some winding checks, reel seats, some of their carbon fire tubes and a few sets of guides. All up shipping was very reasonable at $25.00. The components were here in less than 1 week. If you want a specific reel seat, Mamoru may tell you it will take a week or two. Excellent service all round.
