Hello all.
I'm getting a heavy surf rod blank sent from overseas; the blank can cast up to 10oz and Im looking for the best quality guides for this application. Any advice would be appreciated, also where to purchase close to the Sunshine coast or by mail.
Cheers.

G'day urs.
Are you planning to use braid or mono?
Also, just out of interest which blank did you buy, and why.
Cheers.

I'll am using 250m of mono with a 80lb mono leader backed with braid.
I am getting a Assassin Blade becase I have found my Assassin Beachmaster has become a bit too light for the sinkers I am needing to throw for the style of fishing I am doing.
Cheers.

Thanks for that urs, is that the Assasin Blade or the Blade HMG?
How do you find the freight costs from SA?
10 oz would be combined sinker/bait weight?
Bloody nice bit of gear IMO.
Was there nothing in Oz that suited, including Purglas?
Check out the guides on this link from USA.

If you're using braid, the alconites or better would be the go, so I've been informed by those more knowledgable than myself.
Hopefully you will get some further info from some pro builders on this point.
If you want to buy from Oz, these picies will show you whats what, tho' procuring what you want locally might be problematic.
Cheers and enjoy.:P

hey nigel
i'm getting the graphite as i'm a bit too rough on gear to own hmg.(very sensitive stuff that) 10oz is total weight, i just want to cast 8oz grapple sinkers for sliding, so its well within its abilities.
purglas is still using very old technology, great rods a few years ogo, but never bothered to keep up. seems that most of the top s.a. provincial and national anglers are using assassin, so thats all the recommendation i need as i fish in the same manner.
cheers

I meant that I fish in the same manner as the South Africans not the provincial or national anglers.

urs, from the little that I have seen on the net, the SA anglers are extremely proficient. Very fishy waters, also, plenty of large sharks!
Best of luck with the rod, I'm sure it will be a beauty. Are the blanks very expensive, I couldn't find reference to them on the site.
Cheers.

u.r.s.4 I used fuji silicon low riders on my 12 ft loomis that casts up to 12 ounces.Works fine.I imported the runners from the states all $67 worth per set.But the rod is to powerful for most species of fish i fish for, need a large whole mullet to get it to work.

I'm really not too sure. I'm using the BNHG fujis on my heavy surf rod, with 30 lb line and about a 6 ounce weight. i think they may be a bit light for your appication.

Are you fishing for jewies off a breakwall?

Cheers, Owen
