Ok I admit I'm a boating newbie so this question might sound dumb...

Apart from flushing the motor, what else should I be doing to my outboard (35hp Envinrude Elan) after going boating?

Friends have suggested taking the cover of and spraying the motor with water repellent. Other's say do nothing as long as I service the motor every 12 months.

Should I be greasing the motor?

Help please!!!! :)

Yes it dose not hurt to remove cowl and light spray with inox ar anther water repellent, Do NOT use wd40 it will eat away at your wire harness. Polkk.

I'm a big fan of inox every second time out.
Definately flush everytime without fail.
if you are going to have long breaks between services i would grease the grease points every say 4-6 months.

I assume you can get ino from BCF or other reputable car/boat service shop i.e. supercheap?

yes mate - all the usual 'super' 'cheap' places and all good chandleries and even bcf

another bloke recommended 'salt-x', but i can't seem to find it anywhere. I spray my trailer every now and then thoroughly with Inox and you can see the water bead off it for ages after.
its not real cheap though...

I wash under the cowl with hot soapy water if it ever gets any salt build up under it.
Put spray grease on any sliding linkages, for lube and rust protection.
Armour all for any plastic bits to keep them preserved.
And spray the painted metal surfaces of the motor with penetrol.

Bilopete i get my inox from a bearing shop you can get it in bulk 4lt bottle then just steal one of wifes squirt guns. Much cheaper in the long run and gives you two types of squirts/accuracy.
