just been out for first run in the old mans new boat 5m hooker cc with 60hp yami 4st high thrust model,Just wanted to compare performance to member with same type of set up,boat does about 23knts top speed trimmed out with 3 crew 5900rmp,20knts 5400rpm and about 15knts at 4200rpm,I thought boat might get along abit better, reving at 4200rpm boat just about falls of the plane,I thought that rev range is the best for economy not sure though 20knts is good cruise speed but I thought 5400rpm is reving pretty hard, how does rpm effect fuel consumption? and any advice on what sort of l/hr for 60 yami appreciated, also thought about the motor height where do other hooker owners cav plates line up with keel line thanks for any feedback cheers Yamp

Hi yamp i would assume that that your old mans boat is way under powered i would think you would need a minimum of 80 horses.

Yamp to get a bit better speed/economy/cruise go up 1 in pitch and down 1/3 inch or so in diameter (thats the bit to juggle), this should help the boat out but it is variable due to so many differing hulls, will get you a bit better numbers, how much better will depend on how far you take it.

PS the above only works well if the same brand of prop is used, otherwise 'the ballpark' gets stretched somewhat.

thanks for feedback fellas bert the boat goes pretty well jump on the plane quickly I'm just nitpicking I think. its max rating is a 70hp I think.fnq not sure on the prop diameter but I think its a 13inch pitch I found 13k on inside of the prop looks like yamaha orginal prop looks like a fairly large diameter, will have to measure it, cheers Yamp

Yamp the prop may have some numbers elsewhere? you may need to pull it off to see.

cheers fnq.

Yamp,

I think you will find it has the orginal 11p prop designed for houseboats, etc. If you search the forum you will find most people with this motor run 15p but that may be a little big. I will be running a 13P on mine (if it ever gets here) but I have a bigger boat, I tried a 17p but could only pull 46-700rpm which was 25kts. The dia of the props are in 13' range . Be able to tell more in a few days when I try a Solas 13 3/4 / 13P.

Cheers
Nick
