Hi All
I'm looking to build my first fishing rod. It will be a heavy 13' surf rod. I'm not sure which epoxy I will need and whether or not I will need a thread filler. I'm using speed thread. Are the fuji speed epoxies good quality for what i'm building, or should I invest in some Erskin epoxies?
Cheers
Owen

Rockfisho, although I haven't tried the epoxy you mention I can say Erskines is pretty good, and I'd recommend Guderbrod thread over Speed, which I tried once and swore never to use again. More xxy for sure, but worth it IMHO. The NCP threads don't need a filler coat, I believe, tho' I stand to be corrected on that.
I don't use a sealer when using Guderbrod/Erskines and have been happy with the results, I use underbind, thin coat epoxy, either single or double overbind with one coat between layers and either 2 or 3 coats over the final bind. Hope that lot makes sense and is of some use!
BTW, what blank did you choose?
Cheers.

ncp threads dont need filler but it will help the bubble problem when it comes time to finish and the speed finishes are 1 part varnishs not actualy a epoxy

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up going for the Speed thread and the Erskine epoxy.
Cheers
