I am looking for some more out of the top end of my new 2052 trophy. I have been advised by a friend that I might even be able have my current prop cupped or replaced with a prop with a bigger pitch. What is the downside changing prop dynamics? Can anyone advise me on who I should contact to clarify what my best options are and supply me with the changes that I need.

Thanks
Yolo

Yolo,

you need to supply us with some data to make an assumption on your needs.. we dont read minds :)

things like what prop you are running and what is the max RPM you can acheive now would help and what engine may make a diff too

you can send it to Merc and they will " Lab" the prop to suit your needs ;D

I'm sorry Gary if I was unclear in my request, I was after a recommendation for a contact. It was not my intention to have anyone trying out their ESP to respond to this post.

The additional information you high-lighted is as follows:

Engine:120 HP Sterndrive Cummins-MerCruiser Turbo Deisel
Top Speed:52 kp/h (28 Knots) @ 4200 rpm
Current Prop:J14.5 x 19P (i think this means a 14.5 inch prop at a 19 Degree pitch)
Drive leg:Alpha One MerCruiser
Boat:6.5m Fiberglass centre cab

I hope this additional information will help.

Thanks
Yolo

G'day

Some of the guys here can be pretty on the money re: propping, especially the likes of spaniard king and fnq.

Outside of the site, get into contact with the guys at solas, very helpful.

Hi Yolo, what sort of economy do you get from the cummins if you dont mind saying? Gotta be a great engine for a boat compared to some of the others out there.

cheers fnq

Fnq,

At cruising speed (3800rpm) I'm gettting about 10-15ltrs per hour depending on the conditions, but when i push a little harder (over 4000rpm) the economy drops to about 20ltrs per hour. Hopefully with a prop change I can keep the revs down and won't need to push her as hard.

Yolo,

Going up in pitch will load up the engine, You had better check with the manufacturer as to what minimum rpm the engine should be able to acheive. You could cause undue stress on the engine if over loaded.

Talk to Steve at Solas Props, he will be able to set you up with some to try out, and can pretty well advise the right one 1st up.

10-15Litres/hr at 3800 is Ok. I am getting that with a 150 yammie HDPI on a575 outsider

Good luck

Nick
