I sort of guessed the answer to almost everyone will be 5 or more, if you take a mate or two, then there is three rods straight off, and if you are going (say) trolling, then a bit of drifting on the way back, or maybe even a spot of Snapper Fishing, then the minimum will then be close to 10 rods for a trip.

Now lets see,

there the 2-4kg Pro Guide plastics rod with 360 slammer loaded with 10kg for up to 3/4oz jig head

Then there's the 2-4 kg Pro guide with 2000 affinity loaded with 8kg for lighter plastics and jig head

Then theres the Rapala Braid concept 6-12 kg with 460 liveliner slammer loaded with 15kg for 1 - 1 1/2 oz jig work in deeper water

Then there's the shimano Starlo Stix snapper squidgie with a 560 liveliner slammer loaded with 24kg for sp'ing the brutes

Then there's the 10-20 kg powerstick for the 300trq loaded with 80lb

Then theres the 10-15kg Penn Sports matched to 850 spinfisher loaded with 50lb jigging braid for knife jigs (but that rod is about to be upgraded to a new penn jig stick taht is coming shortly)

Then there are the 2 15-24kg live fibres with tld25's on loaded with 80lb and the other 100lb jigging braid

Then there is the 2 Okuma Titus 50's loaded with 37kg mono on roller tip used for trolling rigs

and that's not to mention the back up rods and reels

An Angler JS980 with a Penn GLS 45 loaded with 80lb jig braid

And 3 Penn 330 gti combos 15kg outfits for any guests

Then there's...of there are too many...might be time for a clean out!

Any wonder the wife is cracking up!

I voted for 5 or more.

Sometimes it's hard to leave behind some outfits because you think that just maybe you'll need that one too.

Definately need a bigger rod rack in the boat (and the shed too)

Aaaaaah Rhys, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! ;)

That's exactly the type of response I was after !! ;D

Gwenda simply cannot see why I need so many rods (not as many as you of course and of not the quality of yours), but you have highlighted the need to have horses for courses.

You are truly a legend!!

I've got 22 atm, and they all have a purpose, ranging from beach jobs to boat jobs. Gwenda just goes all quiet when I offer to show her my collection. "That's nice dear" is about the best response I can get.

of all the rods you take out, how many do you actually end up using???? i used to take 6-7 & usually only ended up using 1-2 ( a spin & a baitcaster). have now got it down to 4, & still only use 1-2. i just like to have a backup in case something goes amiss...:-/

when i moved up here form Sydney i sold 29 rods & bought 25 with me:P i now have culled even more & only keep about 10 for personal use, still only us 2 of those 8-)

When i went to the Swains this year i took 5 rods. One of the other chaps took 20. I thought that was a bit of overkill. He had all the bees knees of gear and the rod most used was a ugly duckling with a Alvey, go figure.

Ah - now I see that the question is how many do we take to sea. I originally misread the question so I have edited this response.

The answer is four.

Legally, only three can be used of course so in my runabout the fourth tends to be a bit of a nuisance but I take a range of sizes just in case ....

We run 8 lures in the spread off the back of the "bertie". So I have 9 x 60kg combos(great to have a spare), 9 x 37kg, 9 x 22kg, 9 x10kg and 9 x 5kg which we use from big blacks to macks. There are 3 sets of 4 deep jigging combos, 6 swf rods in 3 diff weights, some popper casting spin set ups, and some toys for bait jigging, about 100 rods all up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;) ;)

I do know a bloke who regularly fishes with one rod, and he seems pretty happy, suppose it takes all sorts!!;)

I usually have 3-4 of my own and then any visitors have 1-3 so 5 or more seems a fair amount.

Never less than 6 on holiday, and 11 on a normal offshore trip (all pre-rigged). 2 with floats for spotties or similar to fish at any depth. 2 with a running trace and snap link for fishing livies (size 8/0 and 10/0).....if there's a big run I simply snap on a lead to get 'em down quicker. 2 similar for floaters (4/0 and 6/0 gang). 2 jig rigged. 2 bottom bash paternoster style. 1 10footer for casting slugs a loooooooooong way (can only be used from the marlin board). Reels range from ambassadeur 7000, penn 340, penn 345ld, tld 25, TSS4.

In the tinny, 6, make and rigging depending on whether I'm in the Brizzy river, Pine, Pin, or out front of redcliffe.

I am in the process of buying a car and have narrowed my choice down to two. But I don't know whether to buy that comes out of the ground and burns up the desert, or the one that turns into a transformer. I think I prefer the transformer one, but I'd like the security of knowing that the ad had won an award before making such a big commitment.

I take lots and lots of rods on holidays.
I normally have to cater for all the hanger-onerer's, the breakages and allow for any contingency plan that may pop up.

When we go out in the boat though I only ever use one rod.
I'm too lazy to worry about using more then one rod.

Hi All
Never really counted them but would have to say a dozen or maybe a couple more. Depends on what you are fishing for so you tend to have a rod set up for each specific type of fishing.
