Yep another one i hear about shocker charters all the time and last weekend i had one :(

I wont go into details because i only have bad things to say about it but does anyone know of a good charter operating out of the goldie or brisbane ?

I went on a charter once with Mono at MONO`S SPORT FISHING ADVENTURES running out of brunswick heads it was an awesome trip one of the best ive been on and well worth the little extra driving but i believe he has retired and is no longer doing charters.

Has anybody been out with Mono ?

Do you know of a charter thats as good as his used to be ?

If so i think many ausfishers would be interested to find out who and where so they can have a decent day out fishing instead of wasting time and money on charters who are not up to scratch.

mate I have been an a few with peter ( see link below ) - never had a bad day with him.

Half day trips are good value if you can get 10 people together.

I'm pretty sure Mono writes for bush&beach fishing magazine and from memory he advertises his charters on his northern nsw page.

Monostretcho,

John Gooding runs Outlaw Charters out of Brisbane.

Johns operation is excellent and will put you onto some great fish.

He is limited to 4 people, but that just means more fish for you!

Cheers

I was happy with Fishing Frenzy charters out of Runaway Bay marina. He took us to the 36s and we got amberjack, snapper and pearl perch. Cant ask for more than that.

We did a charter with peter and while he is a nice bloke, the trip we had was dismal. Nothing but bottom bashing with real heavy rigs and old alveys. We struggled to get a feed and 3 of us went home disappointed. He came recommended from anglers warehouse tweed heads. The trip still went ahead in rough seas (3-4m swell, 25-30kt winds) even though we questioned postponing. We booked a 1/2 day and got no extra time even though the charter caught bugger all. I understand it was tuff going but we didn't get value for money.

I am looking for someone better and using better techniques, gear etc. out of tweed/nth nsw.

What was the problem with your charter, was it service or lack of fish,if its lack of fish the operator cant be blamed, ive been out and bagged out by 8 am and then other days its not as good.Ive also been on a charter were the captain got the shits when ever any one lost a fish,we were around the wave rider bouy catching dolphin fish and he was actually taking the rod of people,on the way back to the marina i hurd the phone call between him and his boss, wanting to know how many kilos he got, this was the worst charter we have ever been on and it was local and well known.

As stated above Mick McGilveray from Evans is a very good operator, his local knowledge is second to none and years of skipering boats in the gulf affords him the skill necessary to put a largish boat exactly where it's meant to be to maximise your chances. He also does specialty jigging charters where anglers (on a rotational basis with six rods) are supplied with a Stella 20000 and T Curve to tangle with some very healthy local seriola. But as good as he or any other operator is there are days when the fish just don't play the game,I think it would be unfair to judge any skiper on this basis alone.

I didnt want to name the charter because it was only one trip the skipper could have had a bad day . ok im making excuses for him now

It wasnt just the lack of fish but tld 25s that felt like cement mixers and lots of line tangles it was very dissapointing to see another charter boat get back to the jetty 5 minutes after us baged out this tells me that there was fish to be had if we were fishing in the right spot .

perhaps next time i will go on the charter that baged out .

What do ya do ?

Mono had the best charter operation ive been on i just wish he was still doing it

Hi Monostretcho

In my opinion you couldn't go past Smithy or Gooding, both are great blokes and exceptional operators who will put in the work for you. Smithy's posts of the results he has been returning for customers is testimony of his skill and ability. John Gooding with his Outlaw Charters is also a very astute operator making sure his customers have every opportunity of taking home a full esky

You'll pick up Smithy from his web site http://www.sqcs.com.au
John Gooding's mobile is 0418738750 what he doesn't know about the Moreton region is just not worth knowing

Cheers

Sorry to hear about that mate - He should have called it off if it was that rough or at least given you some extra time. I might have a look at someone else next time. - Thanks for the info

Another vote for Frenzy Charters, top bloke, plenty of space and he gives it a fair crack to put you on the fish. He also lets you dictate what time you want to fish

its hard to say what charters are bad and what charters are good.
its the skippers living to go fishing and if they were to say '' ahhhh no we wont go out im not sure if there will be much around'' how are they supposed to live?
you get it all the time were someone has a great day on a particular charter and another will have a shocker. take sea master for example. i know peter and he usually catches fish as do all charters but once and a while he will have a bad day.

i went on a charter from redcliffe , the day before we went they caught 600kg of aj's 3 marlin and some other stuff . the day we went there was a bit of smallish just legal stuff around i got a 35cm tusk fish and a moses pearch 37cm there was an average of 2 fish per person , the skipper did tell us he didnt want to go out (weather and lack of fish) but he left it up to the pasingers and we said lets go . So that was probly our fualt for not listening to the skipper.

BK's..... gimme a break, I thought we were talking serious opreators not just busy ones.
Dunno bout some of these other chaps but if I went on a charter I'd do Smithy. Mind you I like big gamefishing action.

If we didn't catch fish it would still sure as hell be educational. He's doing a presentation in Brissy mid January going off memory its Brisbane Sportsfishing Club but if you want the details send me a pm and I'll look it up.

Also check out Brisbane Bay Tours. They are a new operation but the guys used to deckie for John Palermo and know their stuff. What i like the most is they will tailor it to wehat you want. For example they happily take you to some GPS points to bottom bash if you want, but will also do speicialised plastics for snapper trips etc. Good guys.

There number is: 3904 7106
Ask for Danny or Darren
Also despite the name they do go outside.

Hey Monostretcho,

So was it the Raby Bay public pontoon that you pulled up on?

If so, that narrows the field down somewhat......
