15hp how much to ask ?

looking to upgrade to a 25 i was wondering what i should ask for my current outboard
15hp shortshaft johnson
plated 8-2000 bought in 2001

When I bought a motor last year I was after a 15hp and shopped around all brands,ended up with a brandnew 18hp tohatsu for $1950.00
Most 15hp motors were between $2100 and $2400
How many hours has your motor done?what condition is it in now?
Does it have any extras fitted(Electric start,rectifier etc..)
I would guess around $1500ish maybe a bit more or less depending on above questions.hope this helps

PS. I was very happy with the tohatsu and now have a 40hp tohatsu on a bigger tinnie,dont overlook them as a choice for your new motor.

no extras
condition id say 90% power head electricla area perfect
prop has a few nicks and slight paint wear on skeg prop is not sand blasted like some you see

hours unknown at a guess 100 as its only a 30min run to wherever i fish and i go out once a month

cowling has some slight marks around the front but overall very well presented motor starts from cold on second or third pull

Sorry to hijack your thread stevej but just wondering when johnson changed the colours, I have a 25hp johnson plated 01/2000 and it's grey. Was this this the last grey ????

not really sure on the colour

i aslo owned a 25hp 2000 model which was grey, there are still afew sydney dealers selling this same engine in white with 200-2001 build plates for around 2400

there are some dealers floging off brand new 15 hp for $1900.00 in the tradeing post

have added decks, bow mount, batteries, live well and putting a floor in atm

so after all that the 25 may be border line but thats all its rated too so will have to do
