Greetings everyone,

Does anyone have a cheap MIG Welder (Gas type) that is in good working order?

I'm no longer in the workforce and there's too many sharks and shonky operators for my liking.

Like everything, if you want the job done properly then do it yourself. That way you know its done.

Thanks.

G'day shubeej

Does that one come with an Argon gas bottle or separate, and what size / type wire feed does it use? Thanks, what type of welding helmet do you use with that one. Is it auto type or the old flip glass type, Grade 8 or 10?

Price sounds ok, Peter

bondy, the welder dosn't come with gas bottle you would need to hire your own from one of the gas suppliers , the welder will take 0.6 m/m or 0.8 m/m wire & you
can use whatever welding helmet you like.
cheers shubeej

Thanks for the info. What do they normally charge to hire these gas bottles?

Give Supagas a call.
They can tell the hire costs for different sized bottles and the refill price.
I get my bottles through them.
A word of warning though. Who-ever you get them through aren't cheap.
If I remember the Argoshield bottle (E) I have is about $12/month rental and near $100 for refill
The pure Argon is similar costings.

G'day Finga

Thanks for the additional info, I know there not cheap . Argon is about the only gas I've worked with on a Mig. How tall is the bottle you have? Peter

you wouldnt use straight argon to weld mild steel! straight argon you use to weld stainless and ally! just thought i would give you the heads up! as stated use what ever helmet you like! depending on your eye sight a shade 12-13 is good . i use to use a 13 in my old flip type and now use an auto one and that is set to 13 also! hope this helps and watch those sharky shonky opperators!

Thanks Shano,

Yes, Auto helmet is the best at least you can see where to start welding from.

What type of Gas mixture will I need to weld zincanneal to car's panel work using the mig. The rest would be steel, at the maximum 4 or 5mm.

The Argon gas I used in the factory was mostly fabricating farm gates , the pipes used were heavily galvanised, made good set of car ramps from star picket posts and square tubes, heavy bugger, I left it behind to collect but some other joker scored it. It would have came in handy about now. I'll have to make new ones, again. Peter
