hi all

I really need to update my sounder and I'm maxing out around $300. There does'nt seem to be much on the used market so its looking like the Furuno 4100 is the best way forward. I tend to agree that its heritage probably pushes it ahead of slightly better spec stuff from other makes. I'm not sure that really breaking the bank for a Raymarine DS500 for instance is justified either.

90% of my fishing is done in less than 30m of water...I am doing the right thing?

Cheers all

SM.

Have a look on the fishon web site at the top of the electronics board with the aussie dollar so strong i think you might be surprised what you may pick up for that sort of money or just a smidge more or P.M piscatorial pursuit himself he seems like an honest sort of bloke its his site .....FISH ON that is ...matt

Can't go wrong with the 4100.
Good basic sounder IMO
I prefer it over my Humminbird 727

I have the 4100 and it is a good honest sounder, nothing special but if you are not fishing real deep the fish you miss with this unit over spending twice as much on another is a fantacy.

Thes units are sold in 2 pieces so be sure you are factoring in the transducer into the price.

cheers fnq

true enough Black rat...put when you only get to do it once in a blue moon it should be good!

I guess the spec option at that money is an Eagle 480DF but reading around the Furuno's reading and processing is better. And as i keep reading "how many pro's use Furuno?"

Not totally convinced by that argument but its out there.

i fitted one last week and am very happy with it, i looked at a lot of the cheaper sounders and baring the furuno they all felt cheap

there might be some with more features but you definitely wouldn't be doing the wrong thing 4100

For your budget there is nothing better than the LS4100.
Good Luck!
