Hi,

Im looking for a new boat and I have narrowed it down to 3 options after a lot of thinking.

second hand v17 + new engine
second hand haines 565R
new edencraft 565R + second hand engine

I've seen some nice restorations of old v17's and fancy doing one up as a project but im having real trouble finding one. Same goes for haines 565R.
Im in QLD and seems all the good stuffs in NSW or VIC. Sods law.

So my other option was an edencraft 565R. I would like to go second hand but cant find one anywhere so it looks like it would have to be new. What Im wondering is, is it worth it? It seems to be a beefed up haines 565. Are they really that much better than an old haines 565? should i wait and get an old craft and once restored it will be just as good? Would a new one retain a good second hand value since they seem so rare on the SH market?

thanks fellas

If you have the time go the restoration. Will be far more cost effective in the end.

You should end up with a boat and new engine for say a few grand above the bare hull cost of the Edencraft.

I guess a new Engine is probably the best "preferred" part of a Boat, as long as the hull is reasonable, no use having a brand new Engine on the Bottom of the Ocean, because the Boat fell to bits!

i know of a v17 that is probably for sale-it hasnt been used in a few years and needs a new transom.the trailer is new and when it was built it cost $2000 in materials alone.it has no motor.it is currently stored out west
if you are interested you can give me a pm

well i went to the edencraft factory today. they look to be very solid and well made; really enjoyed talking to the guys that make them. loved the big formula 233 unfortunately slightly beyond my budget.
it looked like a mans boat :)
my only concern is resale value since I've never seen any 565's for sale to get a good idea of the going rate and people may figure its better to get an old haines 565 instead..
do you think this would be right or do you think there would be ample demand for a 2-3 year old second hand 565 in great condition?

id go with the new 565 .i went through the same thing with the 233,cant find any decent second hand ones ,and when you do they are almost as much as a new one.at least if you go new you can get it the way you want.

ps the black 233 in the factory is mine.so i might be bias;D
