A good mate of mine is contemplating purchasing a new boat with a 190Hp stern drive merc as a demo.

Has anyone had any feedback re the engine either good or bad as neither he nor I have heard anything about them as we are both Yammie and Etec boys.

All feed back would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Good to hear.

What is the fuel efficiency like and what kind of boat are you fishing from.

Cheers

Hi Madman,

THis is not exactly the answer you want, but I have the 220HP fuel injected Mercruiser 4.3L V6 in a Whittley Cruiser 660 (nearly 2 tonnes) and it uses LESS fuel than my previous boat which was a 5.2metre Swiftcraft Sea Hawk MkII, with a 90HP Evinrude 2 stroke. MUCH LESS!
I would imagine that the carby 190HP version would not be quite as fuel efficient, but still very good.

I have 2 of them in a 26 caribbean and they have been fantastic at 3250 revs i cruise at 26 knots and chew approx 40 litres an hour for both engines.Mine are 205 hp each.At full throttle i do 40 knots at 4600 revs and would be scared to know how much they chew then.

Thats a good speed for 3250rpm Bastard.

The one I sold to a customer had very healthy 470's in it and we used to do 20 knots at 3000rpm. So theres a fair bit more torque with the V6's then.

Madman, they are a good engine.

My mates got a 25 berty cruiser version with 470s and no antifoul it cruises at 23 knots and does 30 full throttle, they never made a 26 caribbean with 470s so its hard to compare, but i to have no antifoul and i swing 21 inch mirage props, one of these is counter rotating. The most accurate fuel run i have done is i left kooringal at the gutter bar and drove to gold coast boat club i didnt come off the plane the whole way and i used 70 litres of fuel,we were out for 10 days so the boat was heavily loaded but this doesnt seem to make any difference in fuel consumption or speed.cheers

Mark, I have the 220 pushing the 6.5 whittley sea legend. She was guzzling the juice till I decided to back off the revs. She goes so smooth that you don't realise how fast you are going hence the extra fuel.

I only motor at 3000 revs now which still gives me 28-30knots in a kind sea and I'll use about 100 litres from nudgee to shallow tempest and back. At 3500 you can half that again. It's not worth it for the extra 5 knots.
