loud sounder ping

hi guys iv got a lowrance lms 337df combo unit that is making a ridiculously louder sounder ping it echoes thought the hole boat. the thing that stumps me is it doesn't start pinging until you have been out for about twenty minutes. I put my hand on it to see what was going on and you can really fell it pinging away.
any ideas guys

Never heard of this one before. Definitely not normal. I'd ring Lowrance and see what they have to say.

I think you need to stay away from the submarine pens at the Navy base:-).

My little old eagle produces a ping that can be felt by a bare hand, it doesn't produce many watts.

What depth are you fishing? Maybe it needs to ping that hard for the depth??

That is some ping - if you are not close to or beyond max depth range for that sounder I wonder whether your sounder always cranks out the same power, and then just turns down it's hearing to adjust gain, or whether the gain adjusts the power of the ping? Maybe mucking around with the gain would reveal more? either way, a call to the experts may be useful
