HI Team.

About to assemble my heads and water jackets back onto my 1989 110 Johno Donk.

Do I need to apply gasket goo (sealant compound) to the head and water jacket gaskets?

Pros and COns please?

back in a past life when working as a mechanic, rule of thumb was if you only wanted to do the job once, use goo. Must always use the right one for the job though, lots of diffences

i agree with blaze , with motorcycles i always used a copper based sealant for the head gasket . not sure if the same sealant is the go for marine use though.
pros , it seals

cons , more to clean up when rebuilding at a later date . stuff all though .

Hi Splash

I'd be very wary about using copper cote for marine head gaskets...I reckon it would set up a corrosive situation with the introduction of another dissimilar metal base, and I'd stay away from silicon based sealants for water jackets too, its messy.

There is a Stag non-ferrous jointing paste that is suitable for a marine environment - you'd be able to pick it up from whitworths

Cheers
