Hi there all,

Few mates and I have always wanted to do a fishing trip, for about a week or more minimum, but can't work out where to go.
Few criteria:
- Different types of fishing: reef, barramundi, estuary, offshore, etc
Heaps of charters around which specialise in one, reef or barra, but we want variations.
- Costs to cover accomodation, meals, transfers etc.
- Able to possibly do some sight seeing.
- In Australia
- Could be anywhere from 4 guys to about 10 guys.
- Doesn't matter if we're land based or ship based. If ship based, so long as we can get out in boats.
- Other activities like diving would be a bonus. Think this tho would suit places more like Fiji etc.

We've been looking at Weipa, Arhemland, Northern Territory, Broome etc.
Looking at approx $2500 max for the week.
Places like ET's Groote Eylandt look like they have everything we want, but $6500 for a week per person is way over the top.
Doesn't bother us if we have to fly there as well.
I've already been to the Solomon Islands fishing, and it got very mundaine, especially when we get the told the wrong time to go.

Any suggestions of where to or where not to go would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

There's one place I know of that does the trips just north of Cooktown, a bit over your price range @$3000 a week. As far as I know they are ship based, with tenders and do reef, estuary, and a bit of offshore fishing so a pretty good mix. Have a look at this one. Mother ship with various destinations and departure ports. Tinnie fishing and crabbing when departs from Weipa. takes 4 -6 persons at about $3000/ day for the whole boat including grog. This could be in your budget and scope.

Thats the one that was on Queensland weekender the other day, I couldn't remember the name. The blokes from the show ended up with over 200 barra alone between them. They also target GT's the Black Jew, reef species, crabbing, the lot. he boat is pretty flash too, there's 2 or 3 small boats they use to hit the creeks as well, so they pretty much cover al your bases.
