Hi fishermen/women,
i am new to the area and have a question about fishing offshore. i bought a 4.5 m fibreglass half cabin, up north we could only go outside on a 1.2 metres swell, any higher and too rough. what size swell do you fish down here and is there places that you can get out of it??

anything between 10 and 15 KNts Would be quite uncomfortable for fishing in a 4.5 glassy off shore

Hi, welcolm to the SE:)

10 - 15 knots, tops

Seas 1.2 tops

Any more than that and you will not have a good time in a 4.5 M boat, even at that wind strength and sea height I personally would not go to far

Cheers

It's more a combination of the 2. If you have a big ground swell , say 3m but no wind it would be great offshore( provided the bars are workable) also if you had 15knots of sea breeze but no swell it would also be fine. There is a happy medium there but each skipper has differant tollerances.

Just take a few walks down to the end of the rock wall at Point Cartwright and see what the swell / wind does in different conditions. There are a few close reefs out from the the mouth such as Murphys, Inner and Outer Gneerings and Currimundi reef, that would suit so if it does blow up , it won't take you long to get back in.

thnaks guys
hard to get use to swell and wind being different, up north they seem to be linked.
