I have a small 12foot tinnie with a late model yammie 4hp 4stroke
for the last 12-18 months I have had a problem with the motor losing power and stopping
I would usually end up replacing the plug and the motor would start again (sometimes)
The problem was a big frustration as a dicky motor was the last thing you want when out having a relaxing day
I had the motor checked at 2 different places to no avail
I was in the motions of selling it and getting a new motor when a friend said it may be contaminated fuel from the servo
"try putting a slurp of meths in the container when you fill up"
I did this and no more problem!!!!
Turns out that the smaller motors are very susceptible(sp) to any condensation in the fuel and the meths negates the effect the condensation has. Truckies out west use this method when filling up as the smaller depots out west have a real problem with condensation due to the length of time the fuel is kept in the stations tanks from low turnover.
Hope this helps anyone with the same problem

Hi Muddypete - the other option is to have a water seperating fuel filter - one with a clear bowl so you can see any water in the fuel that it traps and empty it our by bleeding it....
