View Full Version : Patriot 680 - 250 ETEC Fuel Figures

I am looking at a 2006 Patriot 680. It is fitted with a (one) 250 ETEC.
I am not interested in the opinions of if it is a good boat etc,,,,
Just interest in fuel figures from those with similar rigs,
My current boat gets 1.3NM per litre.
A normal days fishing is about 80NM travel and 6 hours trolling
There was an american webite that compared fuel rates for all types of motors. I cannot find it now, maybe Kerry can remember this one, it was a few years ago.
Cheers

Crikey that's without doubt the best economy I have ever seen for such big HP, Alan was that a slow or a fast cruise for the 80nm portion?

i had a 200 etec ho , 3.3 litre on a 625 outsider and that was returning .9 to 1.1 km/l . and that was trying to be as economical as i could .
i spoke to a haines rep at the boat show about a 680 patriot with a 200 ho and he reckoned it was getting 2km/l but i think he was full of it .
i did get a few reports faxed to me from brp about fuel tests for different engines and basically 500 kg hulls with any of the big bore etecs returned about 1.8km/l and hulls that wieghed around the 1600 - 1800kg range consumed around the .8 - 1.1 km/l range .
bruce from brp in sydney was most helpful about this and i still have those reports if you cannot get them from him , i would be happy to fax them to you if needed .
i hope that helps
cheers

Those figures are for my current boat - 90HP Honda :)
I dont expect that on the Patriot

Marco is on the money, You could not expect much better that 1.25klm/ liter out of a 680. My new rig is 2T on the water, with the 225 Honda I am getting 1.25klm / litre

That is about what I expect, thanks Gary & Marco
1.3Nm/l is about the same as 2.4 k/l
therfore my fuel usage would be around double

Hi Alan,
There is a review on Boatpoint which may be of interest to you mate -
Here is part of the review
"Mounted on a Haines Hunter 680 Patriot, spinning a 19-inch pitch Evinrude Viper stainless steel prop and pushing a total of 2100kg, our demo 250 averaged 56.4km/h, and 36lt/h when cruising at 4000rpm. There was no prop ventilation through full-lock figure-of-eight turns at these revs."

Hey Lee,
You operate a comparable rig.
What hull weight are you pushing and how does the suzi compare to the above economy figures?

I have an older 680sf with a 225 4 stroke. It gets between 1km/l and 1.2km/l depending on weather conditions, number of people on board, weight of all the fish on board ::)

Hey Scott, the SF20 hull comes in at around 750kg so is a fair bit lighter than the 680.
My 225hp Suzuki gets around 1.7-1.8km/l at just over 4000rpm according to my Lowrance NMEA 2000 setup(see attachment)

For what its worth our old 680 Encore with a 250 suzuki used to average 1.4-1.6km/l. At 4000 rpm we would burn 25litres give or take a litre or so sitting around 23-24knots. Flat out the fuel flow meter said 55l an hour at 40 knots.

Still ,they are pretty sweet figures for a 225hp.Very impressive indeed.

They are pretty good, though they way I drive my figures are a more like 1.5-1.6km/l ;)
Even at WOT it's still getting around 1.2 km/l, thats just over 80km/h

My Haines V213 Would be closer to the weight of the Patriot. And like Lee, i have the NMEA harness fitted so my fuel figures are pretty accurate. With a 200 Suzuki i'm getting a bit better than a litre a mile at cruising speed (4000-4200Rpm). Last trip out i did 110miles for 115 litres. but quite a bit of that was at WOT.

LOL thanks for clearing that up, didn't want to be rude:) but still you get better out of your 90 than I do out of mine:-[

Way to go Al. I saw that in the paper the other day.
Grab it quickly to use down at Faust next week instead of Garys.
the 225 etec on the 680 sc runs around 40/per hr cruising at more than 4000 less than 5000.
I wouldn't bank on getting less than 40/hr.

hi,
have got old 680 hull, with a 2004 225hp 4st yammie, almost 500 hours on the engine,
i use 30-35l/hr doing 4200-4500rpm, my fuel flow meter is reasonably accurate
cheers

For some extra data to compare, I have a Signature 702L with a 250hp Suzuki and have a Navman 6600 with the fuel sensor fitted. At 4,200rpm I sit on 26 knots and get 0.65nm per litre, which is about 40 litres per hour.

i have a new 680 patriot with the duel motor extension running a 250 etec . trailing you will use about 3.7 litres an hour bloody unbelievable cruising around 30 to 35 litres wot around 60 to 70 but your doing over 50 mph im swinging a 15.5x17 . it is a pretty much all round prop whether your loaded full of monkeys or not performance is much the same. i have to admit the 250 etec throttle response in and out in a big swell is just plain awesome compared to 4 strokes ive compared it to the same boat with a 250 4st yamaha anyhow either motor its a very sweet rig.

Hey Alan,
Have a look at Peter Websters site, its a ripper.
Peter and his offsider conduct real fuel tests on the boats he reviews.
You may find what you are looking for here.
