Hi folks......
As you will guess from the question.. I am new to this!! :-[
For the Sunny Coast fishers...... can I ask what sort of anchor you use on the inner reefs like Gneerings, Murphys, Currimundi, Raper shoals etc????
I think the bottom is soft and broken rock, so my pick doesn't stick.... should I be using a sand anchor? Or should I focus on my anchoring technique?
cheers all...

Hey Mike,
I've been using a SARCA (Sand And Reef) for the last couple of years up the sunny coast, it works well, pulls up reliably and I have always been able to get it back so far. If I lost it, I'd go and get another. I have 10 metres of 1/2 link chain as well.
Cheers

I use a Sarca number 3 on my 19 Ft'er and am extremely happy with it.
I was stuck in 95 Kph winds recently on the broadwater for a sweek - the anchor did not move....
It's worht the money.... and peace of mind.
My friends who anchor in the same area who have all had their anchors let go at some stage have all switched from plough anchors or sand anchors to Sarca's and are very happy too...

I have a 4.5 m centre console tinny and use a regular reef pick with 3.5 m of chain. I very rarely have a problem holding bottom and can always get it back. There is a trick to bending the prongs though to get the pick right. The length of chain is important also.
Never use a sand anchor on reef if you want to get it back - unless you shackle the chain to the head and use cable ties to the shaft.
