Does anybody have any sort of fuel consumption figures on the V6 mercruisers. Either the 190 carb or 220 mpi. I am considering putting one in my cruisecraft seametre but have no idea how much fuel they use. Any info on this topic would be much appreciated.

I just read a post on the Bertram forum of a guy who just fitted a new V6 with a bravo 3 drive and gets 3.9MPG at 3920rpm doing 39mph in a 20' Bertram. Thats pretty good I think.

33 knots at 3920 rpm is good figures...would love to know what prop he using to get those results.

certainly impressive in the lower revs...but not a great deal in the top end..only 11 knots more with 800 rpm more..would be drinking some juice at 4900 revs.
If the mercruiser V6 are as good as the Volvos you won't regret getting one.

My 18 footer has a mercruiser V6 4.3 190hp & gets up to 55mph. Great motor & seems fairly efficient...Prop is 23p..

Its similar to my Volvo V8 duoprop in my 25, that last 800-1000 rpm does not increase speed a great deal but the fuel consumption sky rockets. For cruising around the 20-25knot range though inboards are pretty good.

My only question would be what on earth would posess anyone to fit a Bravo 3 drive to a V6 engine.............????

Seems like a seriously misguided effort.... big power drain from the drive unit and no to mention the additional weight.

Despite what the owner might say I would like to independently assess the boats performance. PARTICULARLY the sub planing performance.

Try www.seamedia.com.au (http://www.seamedia.com.au) and look at their boat tests. From memory they have a full test on a Signature 702 with a V6 Mercruiser and fuel consumption figures, taken at 500rpm intervals. Probably about as accurate as you're going to get.

Cheers

I have 2 Volvo V6 in my boat...3800rpm gives around 24 knots..wind them out to 4800rpm and it has recorded 41 knots...quite economical at cruise but sure can drink the stuff at WOT
