Hello, I am still pretty inexperienced and was just wondering if someone could help out.

I am trying to target flathead from land.

I was going to use fireline as the braid and a japanese leader if I can find one.

The problem is, for most of my life I have always fished freshwater and when it comes to flathead I am not really sure which would be a good strength.

Would you recommend, 4,6,8,10lb fireline as my braid? and 6,8,10,12lb for my leader?

Thankyou.

6lb fireline is enough as main line & 10-12lb leader will do the job..

I generally use 4lb fireline but if you're just chasing flatties I'd go for 6 or 8lb. Then for the leader, 12lb linesystem fluorocarbon (made in japan) is great stuff, which I get for about $12 per 30m roll. Seaguar leader is also good as Neil mentioned.

Good luck,

Tim.

I agree with the other guys, I use 6lb fireline and 12lb leader, this will handle all your flatties. Just don't let them get their head above water you they can thrash from side to side and, as you are landbased, just walk backwards to beach them and you won't have any troubles.
