The last time i used my boat i had the trailer removed from the ramp and towed home buy my son.
But he left the end of the winch rope dragging on the road and when i was winching the boat up it snapped around the at the eye hook.
Do i replace the whole winch rope which means i am not confident of pulling the covers off the winch eg clutch nob and rewinding nod or should i just use one of those fittings to attach the winch rope.

just splice the hook back on or you can buy wire rope clamps, put 2 of those on

Take the winch wire to the local chandlery and ask them to swage a new thimble to the end

Getout's got the right idea. You really need the right tool (expensive) which you presumably haven't got or you wouldn't be asking the question.

It's a simple job and shouldn't cost much to get done.
