Going Bass fishing this weekend. Will report here early next week on how I went.

Casino, Lismore, Kyogle area. My old stomping grounds.

I remember as a kid Bass were in plague proportions back then and remember once you only had to drop a worm on a hook and you would get hit as soon as it touched the water.

good luck. the barometer looks good for friday, hopefully it will stay up for the weekend although the southerly will set in for sunday.....we'll see.

I haven't really got into air pressure etc with regards to best fishing times. I'm still coming to grips with tides and moon phases. :)

When I come back I will try to post photos of the lures used and photos of fish hopefully caught along with stats on what lures worked best etc

Just got back from fishing trip.

In about 2 hours we caught 4 Bass with about 3 other hits, and 1 other hookup.

The size of the fish wasn't very good but considering the condition of the creek I'm surprised it produced the fish it did.

The creek we fished is near Nimbin and was a very small creek I used to fish as a kid. In some places the creek was barely flowing and only about 3 holes worth fishing within about a 3km stretch. I think we did well considering the condition of the creek

Largest fish was right on 30cm which was released also.
All fish were caught on spinning disc lures with nothing caught on diving lures.

Will be trying a different spot next time.

In another thread somebody mentioned Tumbulgum as a good Bass place. Is that Tumbulgum near Murwillumbah?

Great report mate. Some nice bass caught on some interesting lures, I think I'll try a few ;D

if your going to kyogle get into toonumbar or below the dam wall (a little local secret). the richmond and clarence are awesome rivers to fish for wildies (bass) and have captured fish upto 59cm to the fork in there.

Yes, I am planning a trip to Toonumbar 'gladbream'. I think it was you who mentioned Toonumbar previously.

Is this land based you are talking about or from a boat? If so are there many land based positions to fish from? and is the terrain difficult to get to the water?

I'm planning on getting a Canoe and or fishing Kayak.

try fishing above the weir in the tweed river near murwillumbah, you can launch a boat from the park at bynagnum bridge on kyogle rd. theres heaps of fish there i've caught them up to 48cm and have seen bigger.

Toonumbar's very hard to fish land based from. Theres a few spots (wall, boat ramps etc) but not many and the terrain is hard going to get anywhere else. Not impossible but by no sense of the imagination easy....
Below the wall is closed to fishing for the next few months as it is every year. This allows the local Fishing club to capture the breeders on there return trip from the salt and place them back into the dam.

You should do alright land based around Kyogle. If you head out to the north and turn left at the football feilds (newpark) follow the road to the end (not very far) it takes you to the water. From here you can walk upstream fishing quite a few pools that normally hold true wild bass. Watch out for snakes though as ive seen quite a few blacks and a good sized brown along there recently...:o
