Is it safe to use cow meat to catch bream or anything else for that matter. I remember In my younger days, this used to work well.

How many fisher people still use it.

Have never used cow's meat as bait bit I don't see that it would be a problem.

Personally, I prefer chicken breast fillet.

Hey Minno ...with bream just about anything is worth trying. We all develop our various favourites.

Why are you thinking cow meat mightn't be "safe"? Mad bream disease???

How wild a fight would a mad bream give you?? LOL

i used to use ox heart cut into strips soaked in tuna oil for bream. Worked a treat and have seen me catching bream while other boats sitting by and watching.

Hi
I used to go down to the local butcher and buy a small piece of stewing steak for a couple of bucks. Cut into strips like worms it works well. Caught my biggest flat head on a piece of steak. :)

I have used beef hearts very successfully with bream.

A very cheap bait which catches big bream.

I use it over here, knead it into a paste and put a blob of the stuff on a bigish hook works a treat

Hi Minno...We grew up using it...especially Bullocks Hearts...that was great bait....even the commercial fisherman still use cows Hocks for crab bait

Snell. You wouldn't think it would work, being out of left field and all, I'll give it a go in the sandy straits and I will let you all know how it went. I take it, you just go to the butcher shop and ask for some.

They were readily available at most supermarkets years ago...just go into your nearest butcher and ask for them...you wont be disappointed..

Bream are a funny fish.. Ive used chunks of mac tuna or bonito and pulled lots of bream from the broadwater but the very next week tried the same bait off the sand pumping jetty to no avail while I watched an islander bloke, no more than 10 feet away, pull decent sized bream steadily about 5 mins apart for 1hour using prawn's,,, obviously they are a picky fish prefering this guy's prawns to my mac tuna chunk's,,,, cant see why the good old steak wouldnt work!... as long as it was raw and still bloody.

Minno, steak has been popular for a long time for Bream, but Mince wouldn't stay on the hook too well I reckon

PS, you don't know a bloke who used to call himself Tunaman on here do you ?
You sound similar to him :)

Hey Guys,
When I was a little guy - growing up in Port Adelaide, fishing the wharves and jetties there - we used to mix mince meat with Semolina, Tuna oil and whatever else I could pinch from mums cupboard.

We would catch everything on it - Bream, Mullet, Gar, Tommy Ruffs, Trevally, leatherjackets - anything. Great bait! Cheap too!!;D

Funny how fishes taste seems to have evolved over the years.

Now they only eat plastic - apparently:wink:

Boys the truth is, bream will eat the arse out of a low flying duck.;D

Good adivce! If first you dont succeed, Distroy all evidence that you,ve tried.;)

I dont think theres a bait or human food for that matter, that they wont eat.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrr bream! Where would you be without them.
