Greetings all!

Can anyone give me a few tips on rigging large(ish) cut baits on single hooks for jewies?

I'm interested in the hook size, how many times it passes through the bait strip and how the top of the bait is secured (elastic/half-hitch/smaller hook etc).

Also, what would be the size of cut bait that you would use?

Best regards, Rob.

Hi Rob.
If using whole squid, I use a 10/ gamakatsu suicide with a 4/0 Mustad Big Red snooded 5-6" above it, depending on the size of the squid.
These hooks rigged on 100lb mono trace 40-50 cm long with a swivel on the end.
I insert a piece of wire with a small 'hook' on the end down from the tail through the squid, hook on the swivel, and draw up the trace and set the big hook through the eyes, the smaller hooks secures the bait through the tail.
I clip this to the main line with a suitable clip.
I use this same snooded hook set-up for slabs of mullet/tailor when targetting mulloway. If tailor are about, I will switch to large gang hooks which produce a far higher hook-up rate on the tailor.
In regards bait size, I like a big bait, squid or slab 6-8" long. Big bait, big fish! Well thats the theory!
Cheers.
