If the trailer is over 250 Kg it will need inspection as well.
Mine falls in that category over 250 kg and no brakes, needs inspection.

And nup she ain't over 750Kg she's been weighed and recorded at 749 KG, she gets a second glance every time I get her inspected.

if the trailer has brakes, YES
If trailer has no brakes... No

simple.

Coz if it's over 750 with no brakes, it's illegal anyway

If in Qld , no inspection for under 750 kg. Weight of trailer has nothing to do with it. Cheers Pete.

Yep spot on NSW and QLD have different rules so it does depend where you are in QLD. If you are and the aggregate trailer mass (trailer & boat) is under 750kg then no road worth is needed. Once over the 750kg aggregate trailer mass mark brakes are needed and a roadworthy will also be needed unless it is new then all it just needs a HVRAS inspection.

This 250kg rule I believe applies to NSW. Any trailer over 240kg (last time i sold a trailer to nsw this was the weight the buyer wished to remain under) has to have a yearly inspection be weigh bridged etc etc. Can any one confirm this?

Cheers Chris

I just cant remember now, because I deal with new trailers but i think with second hand trailers under 750kg aggregate trailer mass the owner will also need to fill out a self assessment form which basically means they deem the trailer road worthy and to meet Australian standards.

Cheer Chris
