Has anyone out there heard of anyone having problems with a tiller arm breaking while boating, my mate was out fishing and the tiller arm broke while he was operating the boat scary stuff.

Like everything they can break.
Who knows where and when it got a knock and started to fracture.

It was quite a regular thing on the fishfarms here....We ran 60 yammie enduro`s with the extended tiller arm ...and they often broke at the main bolt mount..most of this was due to the tiller being so long and lack of maintenance...it pays to check that the main bolt is greased and tight on regular intervals..

PS and yes it is a scary thing when you are screaming along doing 25-30 knots and the tiller breaks...

the Surf Club guys break Yamaha Tillers all the time, they never break Tohatsu or Johnsons though.

This tiller arm snapped at the cast the cast was full of large airpockets his motor was only 3 months old

Where does the tiller arms break at the surf club as this one broke of at the cast it had heaps of large air pockets in it? I have stayed away from yamaha after seeing this tiller arm.

True bit they shouldn't break as this break was in the cast it was full of air pockets, It probably was a manufacture fault.
