Hi,
Just wondering if any one owns one of these and how they handle the rough stuff etc.
Thanks.

Hello Gozz. I have a seafarer Vagabond 6.2 and it is built very strong. Its not a viking 5.5 but they are very similar. I believe that the 5.5 would handle very well. I am sure you would be happy with the performance.

Hi Gozz,
not sure about the newer models, but my 30 year old Vermont (5.25) is a legend in rough sea. I've been through some pretty exciting stuff in her over the last 7 years & she's always amazed me how well she handled.
You would have to think they could have only gotten better.

gozz i have owned a 5.5 viking,5.5 ventura & 2 6.2 vagabonds there a great little boat years ago got caught out in some nasty weather in my viking earnt my respect that day for that hull .all the seafarers i've owned and been on like dropping their bow into a wave when motoring in a head sea at troll speed i'm talking a bit of sea on though.allround good comprimise hull won't go wrong in that size range(5.5)

I must say , Owned a SF Viking for many years pre CC and it had great performance for its class , even better with trim tabs options..
Got caught out in a westerly wind blowing approx 30 kt just on dusk 33 mile East Cape morten , Trailer was at MLBA boat ramp. It was a long dark crawl home but it took the challange. One thing that stood out was its abillity to stay virtical in some hevey cross sea .... Yeah it did take some battering and white water over the port side and was very wet but it held its ground.

Thats the main thing getting home safely,is that the 5.2m or the 5.5m viking you owned.

I have a 30 year old Vagabond. Put trim tabs on it. Its a great bit of kit...its ability is in excess of mine.
Cheers
PS. An absolute shite load of glass in them as a rule.

Yes there bloody solid boats, i owned an 87 model 5.2 with a 97 115 merc on it bout 7 years ago, i used to head out 25 miles in it but i found it very unstable at rest. Apparantly the v seas in this age of boat are better than the vikings? Always felt pretty safe in her but, dont know anything bout the new vikings.

I went to purchase the Seafarer and ended up with a Mustang Toournament 1750 for about $3,000 lets with all the bells and whistles. Do your home wortk brother I think there a tad overpriced but I just bought my boat so I will no doubt find out the differences but I doubt very little. Make sure you put a live bait well in the back and try Runaway Bay Marine on the Coats there good blokes and look after you. I went for 90 Hp Honda and Hummingbord 97 Matrix Depth Sounder. Good luck. If you ahve a Mrs don't let them be rude to her.

Yeah JR , usually you get what ya pay for these days, and the 5.5 Viking, thats the new shape, '97 and on ,thats a true 18 ft'er, are super strong. The live bait is standard .Get a clinched fist and walk around the boat, and while moving towards the bow strike the side, that's the test, then go check another hull of similar size. You certainly made the right decision with the donk, that 90 hp Honda is an absolute pisser.

The only fault I found with my Viking is when you cop a green one over the bow some water can come in around the hatch cover, however a bit of rubber glazing bead fixes this. My boat was first owned by a mate of mine who is a pro. After owning several Seafarers since , he has gone back to the Viking the same as mine. These latter models are very beamy and supper stable........... hope this is of some help

Thanks fellas.
A mate just rang me telling me he's buying a 565 eden craft and he's selling his 5.5 savage mako.
Sorry to be a pain but has any one been in one and how does it compare to the viking.
Choice is a good thing but it can also make life very difficult trying to choose a boat.
