Hey guys whent out for a fish as did many fisherman on sunday
the 5th of august and caught a few little bass about 25cm
then got a nice 36 cm bass. about 30 minutes whent on
and i didnt get a touch so i changed my lure and put on a
soft plastic and fished it deep and all of a sudden zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
could not stop the fish just cept running if the drag
was any tighter the line would of snapped 6lb so i put
the minn koda in full reverse and was following this
unknown spiecies 20 minutes later got over the top
of him and was working him up then about 2 meters
to go bang pulled the hooks on me im guessing that
it was a mary river cod as bass dont grow big enough
to fight like that pluss i have caught 50+ cm bass and
this thing was way bigger then that can anyone else say
that they have caught a big cod in Hinze Dam or been hit buy one.
and do you think this would have been a cod

thanks brony

Hi Brony,
It is possible that is was a cod. I have caught two in the Hinze both pretty close to the same size around the 25 lb mark. I have a feeling though from your description of the run it may well have been a very big toga or the other possibility is a big, big eel. If it felt like it was shaking it's head in a big way then more than likely it was an eel.

ive had a similar experience twice at hinze,
had hoped it was a cod but maybe they are just big eels, they certainly have some grunt

Hi Bronson,
Ive had 2 similar experiences at Hinze in the last couple of months, both on plastics. I would guess at a cod, just judging at how hard they go. I've caught some stomper eels at Moogerah and Somerset and they definately fight differently than whatever I was onto at Hinze.

Good to see some fish being caught I hope to head out there a couple times this next week.

Cheers,
Matt
