I have a new 150hp Etec which has done 12 hours and has used a lot of oil ( 6L ) . I'm told it has a run in time where it will use a lot of oil (25:1) then after a period of time will go to ( 300:1) is this true and if so how many hours before it does this?

Just make sure you got one of the motors that had the exhaust ports deburred. A good friend of mine had his 150 HO turn to jelly during the week when it hooked up a ring. Good news though, BOM were aware of the fault and a new powerhead has been fitted and ready to be run this arvo. Preety quick turn around really. Seastorm, hope you have better luck.

10 hours is correct for the higher oil usage then it converts to 300 odd to one .

see how yours goes for holding revs around 3500-4000 rpm , i know of others that have had problems and brp just developed a new engine map for it .

the 150 is a very nice engine , you should be pleased with it .

marco,

I dont know who told you that the E-tecs run at 300-1.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/tongue.gif
I dont know of any 2 stroke that you would want to run at this ratio.
I think what happens after the initial liberal oiling is that oil is added at a rate which is dictated to be neccessary by the computer (which of course depends on how hard the motor is working) .
So at slow idle the motor may only need to be lubricated at 300-1 but when you hit the throttle a higher ratio of oil is necessary perhaps down to around 100-1.

Etec doesn't burn oil like conventional 2 stroke. Lubricating oil is directed onto moving parts without the need for fuel/oil mix to be inducted through the whole motor

Having owned an ETEC, I can tell you the facts here.

Yes it will use more oil initially, it doesnt have a run in period that the operator is aware of, however the engine will itself, double oil for a period of 10hrs, when it will revert to normal without you having to do anything.

Another bit of advice I'd give you, is get it onto XD100 if not already, this has to be programmed by dealer, and XD100 oil is more exy than XD50, HOWEVER as its a fully synthetic oil it will use literally 50% less oil, so actually will save you lots in the long run, and its virtually a smokeless oil.

I talk from personal experience,

Hope this helps you

I have the same block in a 175. Oil usage does slow down. It doesn't just switch at a certain hour but rather reduces over a period of time. I have over 40 hours on mine now and it consumes a lot less oil than my old 115 johnson two stroke. The only negative I can say about the motor is that the oil is too expensive. (All two stroke oil fits into this category)

Reel blue,

It does switch at a certain time, 10hrs, ask any dealer, also I have the software and have looked at it myself.

It is also resettable to do another 10hrs double oiling, which would be used if for any reason you wanted to do so, after fitting new parts, or more commonly when going from xd50 to xd100, so it oils extra till the 100 is thoroughly thru the system.

While this may be so,getout,my motor seems to average around the 100-1 mark(of XD100) but then most of the time is spent travelling to and from the reef at reasonably high rpm's.

disorderly ,
that would be the head tech from brp that told me about the 300:1 and my consumption would confirm this . if your not getting that maybe your engine has not been set to xd 100

Ron, you are probably correct regarding the 10 hours. However, I have been told conflicting information from two different dealers; they are not all expects on the ETEC's and it's better to deal with mechanics that have the necessary training. I was orginally told that extra oil would need to be added to the fuel in the tank, but I knew that was incorrect. Interestingly the manual does not state 10 hours, rather, 'after the motor has been operated for a programmed period the EMM will reduce oil consumption'.
