Those underwater cameras are pretty useless unless in clear water and fairly shallow.

Anywhere theres a quick current or at depth you might as well toss the lot in and hope you knock out a fish that floats to the surface near your net..... :)

Also, of all the brands of units I have seen they all come with a CRT screen which is nto what you would call daylight viewable. They really need a sunlight/daylight viewable LCD.

Cheers

Oh good because I brought one to look under the pontoon and to see under the boat :)
For $99 I reckon I can live with the limitations.

I thought there may have been a real technical issue like they blow the cab of the boat after leaving on for 3 minutes.
Hell for $99 the charger and battery must be worth 1/2 of that :)

Just wondering Fella' how would the car reversing camera set up go under water.
Surely the camera is water proof and the monitor colour, might have some limitations like range, and size of screen though.

That's ok as long as you read the fine print :)

When reversing under water please ensure the windows are closed first!

Hey, Kerry made a funny!!! :)

Finga, for that application it would be fine. In the specs does it say CCD sensor or CMOS sensor?

And yep, for the dollars its worth a fiddle I guess. They were about $400 when they first hit the market around 3-4yrs ago.

Cheers

Well we tried it out yesterday.
It was worth the $99 just for entertainment value for the kids.
We never heard boo out of them for a whole day.
We set it up on the pontoon and the water was really murky early on in the day but the tide was coming in and the water cleared up and life was good.
We used about 5 kg of chook pellets for burley to bring the baby bream in and the camera worked well in these conditions.
Yep it would/is be a bag of sh-t in dirty water but when it's dirty like that my eyeballs wouldn't be much better.
Yep, the same applies in direct sunlight
Yep, it was worth the $99 for for the kids to play with.
I'll be very curious to try in on a shallow reef just to see what's what.

GI I don't really know what you mean matey but the picture you get is really clear but you can't record or have leads going to a stills camera. If you wanted pictures you'd have to take them just the same as taking a picture of the sounder screen.

Anyone have any idea to what depth these units will go. Here in SA we'd be lucky to be fishing anything deeper than 75ft. With most of my fishing done in 35-45ft. Tidal flow could be an issue I guess, but hey @ $99.00 u cant have evrything can u?

Finga, where / what is BCF?

18m is the cable length
BCF is a supermarket style goods stores for the adventurer...kinda anyways.
