i am getting a new boat soon probebly a edgetracker and i need a 40hp motor to go on the back.
i love to lure fish out of the boat so ofcorse a electric will be fitted aswell as some sounders.
question is i need a 40hp motor but becasue i fish for bass i need a four stroke because some dams will not allow a 2 stroke!
an idea's guys.
i think it is pritty hard to go wrong with any brand these days because there all good.
i will be probebly getting a black motor on it;D

I have a 40hp Honda four stroke on my little bay/bass/barra boat. Very quiet, very fuel efficient and great slow idle when trolling. That would be my recommendation!

Is there a chance they might all be the same motor???? I know merc and tohatsu are interchangeable in some of the smaller motors.

I'd go the suzi or honda. what motors does the dealer sell . you will be better off getting a bmt package. do you have good dealers in your area this would also influence my decision.

I would pick the the Suzuki 4 first then a Yamaha 4 second followed by the Honda..

The suzuki is the hands down winner cause of the 5 year warrentty(also honda has it now) but i just love how quiet these engines are & the performance is still half decent out of the hole..

Breamnut, be aware that most of the 40 hp 4 strokes will probably troll to fast at idle. Depending on your boat of course.
I've had the suzuki 40 , it trolled to fast but everything else about it was wonderful.

I had a Yammy 40hp 4 stroke and it was a lovely motor.
Is it true that all Suzuki’s are backed by the Haines Group and not by Suzuki Japan so all warrantee issues have to go through them?

i am not to worries about trolling speed as i will have a electric motor.
though i am starting to look at some boat and motor packages 2nd hand.
wont be getting it for a couple more months yet but i would like a tourni ready boat. i will have about 8 to 10k to spend but like i said a few more months should do it
