On the weekend, I had to do the most revolting task ever!:o
Dreamdays has been parked for quite a while and while she was sitting under the tarp in the dark, the cockies have had a field day eating every bit of silicone that was under the water tank inlet filler cap.
Whilst gorging themselves, they also fell into the water tank!
Needless to say, the water was putrid, and the garden received a quite a boost while it was flushed, chlorinated, flushed, chlorinated etc etc etc.................

After spending a lunch break today reading labels, most sealants are silicone based.
Any suggestions with a non-silicone that can seal water??
Thanks in advance!

Yeah marine sika or the marine 3m 4200/5200s all are polyurethanes, far better than silicone but might still be appetising to the roaches:(

The 5200 sets quite hard hard for these glues, enough to pull the gel-coat off with whatever it was use on.

Maintain a surface spray barrier at access points??

cheers fnq

Whatever you use lanolin is good to use as a insect repellent either spray or grease,so you could treat the area with it.Lanolin has been used this way for a long time on electrical underground cable's and has worked well.Dan...........

Well it does seem strange but all the old shearing shed floor's from 100 year's back they found that the timber had not been eaten by termite's and other insect's.The lanolin come's from the fleece apparently it's absorbed by the wool but it's not acctualy in the sheep fat.(and no i'm not a kiwi so don't laugh).Even telstra was using it to protect their wiring from insect's.Dan......

If you only need the sealant as a gasket, there are rubber sheets around which are water proof & will do the same job. CBC Bearings & the like will stock them.
