We burleyed up a truck load of the buggers , are they any good as bait, live or otherwise???

Hi Rando,

Mate, we used to catch heaps on the west side of mud near the nets. We used the big ones as live baits and caught heaps of small table size shark and some big catties. On another occasion, I also caught a couple of spotties on 'em float fishing in the Rouse and a cobe and a dolphin ::) at the 4 beacons.

I think the distress croaking sound they give off brings other fish in.

Top Tip:

Boiled eggs, cut in half vertically, and with the yolk removed, make ideal miniature porcelain-style urinals for hamsters and guinea pig cages.

Small ones are a great live bait for big flathead too. They are very tough little fish and stay alive on the hook much longer than herring, small winteries etc. They should also make a good live bait for cod I would think.
